Indie Games: Cave Story

Scene in Arthur's House

I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to call this section ‘Indie Games’ Or ‘Recession Busting Games’ – but I suppose to two sort of go hand in hand (in a way).

You can download it for free on PC, and an updated version is due to come out in WiiWare due out for release in the near future.

PS3/PS2 to have Timed Exclusivity to Ghostbusters the Video Game in PAL regions

ps3ghostbusters

Sony announced that the PS3 and PS2 will get the Ghostbusters video game on June 19th to coincide with the BluRay release of the original movie.
They also announced that the originally scrapped PSP Ghostbusters game will get a release some time in the Autumn.

However, for PAL regions, gamers will have to wait for a currently unspecified amount of time before the game is released on other platforms. Other regions need not worry.

One wonders exactly what their marketing strategy is exactly… might they have alienated the 21+ year olds without PS3’s who have been eagerly awaiting for this games release next month?

Will this timed exclusivity in PAL regions shift a few more PS3’s for impatient Ghostbuster fanatics?
Only time will tell.

For now, everyone without a PS3 and without the money to acquire one will have to get together for group therapy to try and heal the wounds caused by this news.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade set for September US Release

muramasa

Ignition Entertainment have announced that Muramasa: The Demon Blade (otherwise known as Oboro Muramasa In Japan) will be released on the Nintendo Wii in North America in September this year.

Muramasa is a stylised 2D side scrolling Action RPG set in feudal Japan, and the game draws its inspiration from Japanese history and mythology. You follow two characters as they travel in opposite directions across Honshu collecting. and forging Katanas along the way.

The game offers three different modes to match three different styles of playing. Unmatched focuses on character levelling, Carnage focuses more on the action and Insane Death mode, which has to be unlocked, sets your characters HP to 1 throughout the entire game.
The Wii remote and Nunchuck can be used to control the characters, or alternatively, the Classic Controller or Gamecube Controller for the more action based modes.

A European release date is set for some time in 2010.

Mini Review: Left 4 Dead Survival Mode DLC

left4dead

Not getting the thrills from your regular Left 4 Dead playthroughs like you used to? Finding it easy to surf through Expert modes? Need a little more of a challenge in your life? Then the Survival Mode DLC for Left 4 Dead is most certainly for you!

You have five maps to choose from, one from each of the original four campaigns, and the new Lighthouse area under the title ‘The Last Stand.’

You start off free to be able to wander around, check the map out, set up traps and find where all the goodies lay hidden. You will then have to set off a Crescendo event and that is when the fun/frustration begins.

Brütal Legend set for October Release

Electronic Arts and Double Fine Productions announced today that Brütal Legend will be set for release in the UK on October 16th 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Brütal Legend is about roadie Eddie Riggs who has an accident on stage that knocks him unconcious. When he awakens, he is in a world where the album covers and lyrics of heavy metal songs are a reality.
The last of the human race have been enslaved by a demonic army, and it is up to Eddie Riggs (voiced, and apparantly modeled off, Jack Black) to save them.

The website has been re-launched [http://www.brutallegend.com] and you can also keep up to date with the Brütal Legend Twitter [http://twitter.com/brutallegend]

Xbox Elite Bundle – Includes Halo 3, Fable II and Fancy new Jasper chipset

xboxbundle Microsoft announced that their new Elite bundle will include the 2007 and 2008 Games of the year, Halo 3 and Fable II. It will include all the goodies you got in the original Elite package, like the 120Gb Hard Drive, HD cables and wired headset.

This Game of the Year bundle will be limited edition, so if you don’t have an Xbox 360 already – now is your chance! It will retail for the Elite’s regular price of $399 (no solid news yet of a release outside of America) and will include the new Jasper chipset motherboard that the Red Resident Evil 5 Elite bundle had.

The Jasper chipset has smaller memory chips, so it is less prone to frying itself and RRoD’ing you. There is also a more efficient cooling system to make sure everything is running smoothly.

What does this say about the rumors of Microsoft halting production of the Elites? The general consensus is that the Elites will no longer be purchased by themselves, but will be part and package of special edition bundles.

Good? Bad?
Good news for people looking to get an Elite.
Bad news for people (like me) who already have one without the swanky new chipset.
